Johannes Brahms and the Schumanns kept a close relationship throughout their lives. Brahms got to know Robert Schumann as a young man, the latter becoming his friend and mentor. Brahms was also reported to have a strong infatuation with Robert's wife Clara, to whom he dedicated several pieces of music. The three had immense influence on each other's artistry. Our program is dedicated to these three compositional giants, featuring Brahms' two cello sonatas as the main course on the menu. These epic chamber music milestones will be complemented by two short sets of character pieces, the first op. 22 by Clara, and the second op. 73 by Robert.
