Valeria Vertemati was born in 1997.
She plays as second flute and piccolo in the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich.
She began studying the flute at the age of 9, and that leaded her to start her academical studies at the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan (Italy), where she obtained the Bachelor with the maximum cum laude.
Valeria then continued her academical career at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano (CH) in the flute class of M. Andrea Oliva, where, in June 2021, she obtained the Master of Arts in Music Performance.
Now, she is attending the Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance – Orchesterinstrumente at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, in the class of M. Sabine Poyé-Morel.
Among the many musical experiences, the orchestral one is definitely central, and that is the environment in which Valeria suits better.
In 2021 she was selected as Voluntariat Praktikant in the Philharmonia Zürich, where she had the opportunity to play under the baton of M. Jonathan Stockhammer and M. Andrea Sanguineti.
Lately she had the opportunity to play in several orchestras, such as Luzerner Sinfonieorchester under the baton of M. Michael Sanderling, the Opernhaus under the baton of M. Gianandrea Noseda, the Academy of Teatro alla Scala (Milan, Italy) under the direction of M. Lorenzo Viotti, and as first and second flute she played with conductors as M. Daniele Rustioni, M. Alexander Lonquich and M. Alessandro Moccia.
She is also active as a chamber music player. In the season 22/23 she will have the chance to take part in the project “StradivariFEST”, that takes place in Switzerland, and in which the chamber music formation of the string quartet – being the Stradivari Quartet – is combined with the chamber music formation of the wind quintet, and milestones of the orchestral repertoire are played in these interesting and refined transcriptions.
Furthermore, she will perform in the renewed chamber music group “SchweizerOktett”, which includes some of the best musicians from the main swiss orchestras.
During her academical path, Valeria also experienced many other musical experiences: from 2016 to 2018 she was selected for the High Courses of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome) – “I Fiati”, in the class of M. Andrea Oliva. She participated as an effective student at the festivals “Flautissimo 2015” and “Flautissimo 2017” organized by the Italian Flute Academy in Rome.
She won numerous prizes, such as the third prize at the Concorso Nazionale di Flauto “E. Krakamp” (Benevento – Italy).
As a concert performer she participated in several festivals, such as in the “Blaser Serenaden Zürich”, in the “Gegen der Strom” (Bad-Ems, Germany), in the “Réncontres Musicales de la Mediterranée” (Bastia, France) and in the “MI-TO Settembre Musica (Milan-Turin, Italy).
She also received the important help of renowned Swiss Foundations: in November 2021 she has been awarded as a Scolarship holder from the Rahn Kulturfonds, in Zürich, and in March 2022 she has been selected for a scolarship from the Geert und Lore Blanken-Schlemper-Stiftung.
