Hegar Trio

Hegar Trio
Performing in:

The Hegar Trio, named after the founder and first conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, unites violinist George Cosmin Banica, cellist Paul Handschke, and pianist Benjamin Engeli. The ensemble was formed in 2022 out of a shared desire to explore the piano trio repertoire freely and authentically – without stylistic limitations. Open to the entire spectrum of chamber music – from Classical to Late Romantic, and from Impressionism to contemporary music – the Hegar Trio creates flexible programs that adapt to the specific artistic context and audience.
The members of the trio are deeply rooted in the Swiss music scene. George Cosmin Banica is assistant concertmaster of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, while Paul Handschke is principal cellist of this renowned orchestra. Pianist Benjamin Engeli is an internationally sought-after soloist and chamber musician. The trio's powerful and sensitive musicianship leads to a remarkable balance between individual virtuosity and harmonious interplay. United by a natural artistic affinity and a joy in musical dialogue, the Hegar Trio presents vibrant and immediate interpretations of the piano trio repertoire.
