The Belgian violinist Eugenia Karni comes from a family of musicians. She studied with Zakhar Bron at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and with Augustin Dumay at the Musikkapelle Königin Elisabeth.
She is a prize winner of several international competitions, including the Rodolfo Lipizer International Competition and winner of the International Hindemith Competition.
In 2014-2019 Eugenia was 1st concertmaster at the Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra and in 2020-2021 she worked on the same position at the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra in Konstanz, and since 2022 as concertmaster of Bern Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, Eugenia is concertmaster at the Orchestre de Chambre de Fribourg and 2nd concertmaster at Sinfonieorchester Basel. In addition, Eugenia is a much sought-after guest concertmaster with Festival Strings Lucerne, Opera de La Monnaie in Brussels, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Basel Symphonieorchester, Duisburger Philharmoniker , Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and many others.
Besides being a concertmaster, Eugenia has a great passion for chamber music. Together with her husband Gilad Karni and pianist Dmitri Demjachkin she forms the Edge Ensemble.
Eugenia plays on a Vincenzo Panormo violin, made in Paris in 1975.
