Liang Geng, born January 30, 1994 in China, is an outstanding bassoonist. He has played in several renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. He is currently engaged as 2nd, 3rd and 4th bassoonist and contrabassoonist in the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and holds a temporary appointment as principal bassoonist in the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Throughout his career, Geng Liang has received significant awards, including third prize in the "Young Artist" category at the "IDRS Competition" in August 2015 and first prize in the open bassoon category at the Singapore International Woodwind Festival Competition in June 2014.Geng Liang began his musical education at the Music Middle School affiliated with Shanghai Conservatory. He studied there from 2006 to 2012, after which he continued his education at the prestigious Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore, earning his Bachelor of Music degree with honors in 2016. During this time, he was mentored by Zhang Jin Min, former principal bassoonist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and head of the Wind Instruments Department at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.Since February 2017, Geng Liang has been deepening his studies at the Zurich University of the Arts. There he is mentored by Matthias Rácz, principal bassoonist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and professor of bassoon at the Zurich University of the Arts. Geng Liang has also participated in various master classes with Stefano Canuti, Kim Walker, Magnus Nilson and Afonso Venturieri, among others.
