Thomas Grossenbacher was principal cellist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich for over 26 years and maintains a busy concert schedule.

He performs as a chamber musician and soloist in Europe, the USA, Taiwan and Japan.

His CD recordings, particularly Richard Strauss's "Don Quixote" (Arte Nova) with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under the direction of David Zinman, have received considerable international acclaim.

Thomas Grossenbacher is also a highly active professor at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Some of his former students have won prizes in international competitions, hold prominent positions in renowned chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestras, or are active as soloists.

Thomas Grossenbacher's teachers have included Tatjana Valleise, Mischa Frey, Claude Starck, and David Geringas.
